Student Spotlight: James

Student Name

James Santos

Genre

Rock / R&B / Neo Soul

James is a 28 year old guitarist based out of Sydney, Australia who’s been playing for half his life.

Being self taught, he never had a structured learning path and as a result his knowledge of music theory and fretboard fluency was minimal.

After 14 years with the instrument, he found himself always going back to the same area of the fretboard, playing the same minor pentatonic licks and had grown frustrated with his inability fully express the sounds in his head and translate them into his fingers.

It’s easy to get stuck when you don’t have right the tools.

We offer students the “building blocks” of musical knowledge to help expand what is possible for them on guitar and offer support to apply that knowledge and grow as musicians.

In James’s words, “ he’s learned more in the first month of the program, then in the past 8 years.”

With the help from his mentor, Nicholas Veinoglou, James was able to expand his fundamental knowledge of music while learning how to apply those lessons to his own creative expression as a guitarist.

His time feel is better, he understands how scales are constructed and he’s developed a more robust “tool bag” of techniques and overall theory that have allowed him to flourish as a songwriter.

James has been a true pleasure to work with and we are elated to have him as part of our community.

Keep up the great work James!
