About Sonora

Sonora Guitar Intensive is an online mentorship program for guitarists who want to stop noodling and start sounding like the player in their head. Since 2017, more than 6,000 students have worked one on one with mentors who tour, record and teach at the highest level. Our alumni include seven Grammy winners, and students have left more than 400 five-star reviews on Google. Most of our students are adults who have been stuck at the same level for years. Their mentor is the person who finally gets them unstuck, and the reason they keep playing.

What you will do

Teach one-on-one video lessons with a roster of adult students, most of them 30 minutes every other week inside our 12-week Fellowship rounds.
Watch the practice videos your students send between lessons and reply in the Sonora app with feedback they can use that day.
Find what is really holding each player back and build a plan around what they want to sound like, with Sonora’s curriculum as your base.
Keep students moving when life gets busy. Most of them have careers and families, and a mentor who checks in is often the reason they keep playing.
Log lessons and notes in the Sonora app so the team can support you and your students.

Who we are looking for

You play at a professional level: touring, session work, records, or a teaching post at a respected school. Tell us the credits you are proudest of.
A few years of teaching, and the ability to explain a hard idea simply, on the guitar and in words.
You look for the root cause instead of handing out more exercises.
Patience and warmth with adults who are hard on themselves.
A solid setup for online lessons: a good camera, clean audio for your guitar and your voice, and reliable internet.
Reliability. Students plan their week around your lessons.

Step 3
30-minute teaching demo
Spencer plays a student who has been stuck for a while. You teach a short lesson.

Written offer with pay and a start date.

Use a laptop or phone with a camera and mic, somewhere quiet, with your guitar in tune and set up the way you teach. Each video can be up to two and a half minutes, and you can re-record as many times as you like before you submit.
