How to Actually Use a Metronome
Weird question, but do you know how to use a metronome correctly?
(If you're like most guitarists, you just went.. "uhhh, right... metronome... my guitar teacher told me to use that once... maybe I should do that.".. Yes, do it, trust me.)
But even if you do use a metronome in your practice, you're probably not using it correctly. Most people don't.
"What do you mean correctly? You just turn it on, it goes 'click' and you play to it right?"
Well, sort of.
If you just turn the thing on and start playing, you're really only getting 10% of the benefit of playing with a metronome (a totally unsubstantiated statistic, but you get what I mean)
The point is, there's actually a technique for using a metronome properly and it's SO much more effective than that.
It's called the Spider Metronome and it's what pro level symphony musicians use to become world class on their instruments.
But for some weird reason, guitarists don't do it. We should change that.
I put together this short video to explain to you how it works.
I learned this from one of my best friends, Marc Gelfo who is the founder of one of the worlds best (in my humble and biased opinion) music practice apps called Modacity. He's also a world class french horn player and with a background in neroscience and he used this technique to land his dream gigs playing with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
