Alex is a recent graduate of the GMI program.
He chose GMI because, like many of our students, he was looking for mentorship and a regular practice routine to help him increase his abilities on the guitar.
He spent countless hours trying to build a course by himself compiling random YouTube videos, and found that as a practice routine, this approach just isn't that effective.
One of the reasons he decided to enroll in GMI was the way we bake techniques and ideas from the neuroscience of learning and language acquisition directly into our learning software. It turned out to be a game changer for his practice routine.
If you’ve followed us for any amount of time, you’ll know that we’re big fans of breaking things down, going deep, and finding ways to learn more efficiently.
Alex took these core beliefs to heart, embodied them in his practice and this was the result.
Alex was a great player when he came to GMI.
He had awesome dexterity on the instrument and had been playing in bands and producing music for years, but his foundation had some gaps that prevented him from being fully expressive.
He had a strong desire to expand his musical palette and write more inspired music. He wanted to understand not only the theory, but link that theoretical understanding to an emotional understanding of the instrument.
With the mentorship of Arianna Powell, he was able to find that place where his musical ideas come out more naturally.
Alex was an awesome student because he was super committed to the process, which is why, in the end, he was so successful and saw amazing progress.
Alex is another great example of what success looks like when you apply yourself and follow our approach.
We believe it's possible for any student to achieve the kind of progress that Alex saw in his time with us.
If you feel inspired by Alex’s story, and you're ready to push yourself to new heights on the instrument, consider applying to our next cohort.
Grace Rolland has been playing since the age of 12 and came to us with a deep desire to move forward in her skill as a musician.
She had grown tired of always relying on the same "fall back" positions to the guitar and was looking for a clear, structured approach to deepen her understanding of the instrument.
